The Solar Center - Much More Than Solar! The Center began in 1981 with the creation of a solar house built to research and demonstrate the benefits of passive solar, solar water heating, and solar electricity. Since then the Solar Center has grown and expanded. With a full-time staff of over thirty people, we cover all renewable energy areas including wind and biomass. We also have teams dedicated to High Performance Buildings , Clean Transportation, Economic Development, Distributed Generation, Policy Analysis and we manage the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) project, the national "go-to" resource for renewable energy and energy efficiency policy and incentives.
